We’re excited to announce the launch of TopScope, a groundbreaking new chart type in TransStock. TopScope simplifies stock comparison by displaying the performance of multiple stocks across several periods in a single view.
Why TopScope?
The chart identifies the top-performing titles within a user-defined range (Scope), providing a clear visualization of each stock’s evolution:
- The X-axis, list stocks alphabetically
- The Y-axis reflects the value of a selected indicator.
- Each stock is represented by a vertical line, with customizable symbols (such as diagonal crosses or circles) representing different time periods.
Users can quickly grasp a stock’s movement through its visual evolution over up to 5 periods, reducing the need to analyze multiple charts.
- TopScope offers the ability to reorder the X-axis from alphabetical to period-based, showcasing the strongest and weakest performers.
- Additionally, the Y-axis can be normalized by hiding extremes for a more balanced view.
Example: Sector SPDR ETFs
In the GIF above, you will see 12 titles:
- the 11 SPDR ETFs
- and the SPY as a reference.
You observe very quickly that certain titles have large vertical lines and others do not. This means that one ETF moved hard percentage-wise over the chosen periods and the other less so. Through the interrelationship between the symbols, you discover the direction and strength for each period.
By clicking on the period at the top of the study,
- you see that XLK is the weakest followed by XLE
- and XLU is the best performer at 3 months.
For 6 months:
- XLE performs weakest
- and XLU best and for 1 year,
- XLE underperforms and XLF does best here.
A quick conclusion would be than XLE is currently the worst ETF in terms of performance . This is correct! But look at the relationship of the symbols and then it gets interesting:
- For all ETFs the diagonal cross is at the bottom and this is normal for a rise of several years.
- For XLE, the diagonal cross is near the top: this means close to a breakout in 1 year.
- Sure, this needs further monitoring to see if the trend continues.
You notice how quickly you analyze based on this chart type and entire market.
